The Kegalle District Industry and Entrepreneurship Promotion Committee convened recently under the leadership of District Secretary H. M. J. M. Herath at the District Secretariat Auditorium. The meeting focused on identifying and addressing key market challenges faced by small and medium-scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) within the district, while developing a coordinated mechanism to support their growth and competitiveness.
The initiative aims to strengthen the regional industrial ecosystem by creating a structured dialogue between government agencies, business representatives, and local entrepreneurs. Participants discussed practical solutions to improve market access, financing facilities, and business linkages, ensuring that the district’s growing SME sector receives the institutional backing needed to thrive in a competitive environment.
Special emphasis was placed on empowering micro and rural enterprises, encouraging value addition, and promoting local innovation through targeted development programs. The committee also reviewed ongoing support schemes and identified priority areas requiring policy and infrastructural interventions.
