First Discussion Held with National Agri Market Services Ltd Board at Ministry of Trade

The inaugural discussion with the Board of Directors of the newly established National Agri Market Services Ltd was held on October 24 at the Ministry of Trade. The company, which is a 100% state-owned enterprise under the Treasury, has been set up to manage and streamline operations of the country’s Special Economic Centers.

The meeting, chaired by K. A. Wimalenthiraraja, Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, focused on briefing the new board on upcoming plans and addressing key operational challenges.

The establishment of this company marks a significant step in bringing order and efficiency to the currently unregulated economic centers. It aims to create an integrated system that connects farmers and consumers through improved packaging, efficient transport, and reduced post-harvest losses—ensuring fresher and higher-quality produce reaches the market.

The head office will be located in Narahenpita, and the company is expected to play a pivotal role in developing fair pricing mechanisms, strengthening trader agreements, and managing assets of existing centers. Through these initiatives, National Agri Market Services Ltd seeks to promote transparency, accountability, and a sustainable agricultural market network across Sri Lanka.
